People Solutions Center: Here is sample language for communicating telecommuting options to your employees. I’ve provided a few versions in an effort to meet the needs for each of your specific situations. Some employers are going with voluntary telecommuting, while others are mandating the telecommuting options. Both options are covered in one of these documents. In addition, there is language you can use if you are unable to let some positions telecommute.
Mandatory Telecommuting Arrangements Voluntary Temporary Telecommuting Arrangements
HR Tip of the Day:
Communicate daily – Particularly with all the information coming at employees from friends, family, newscasts and other sources, you need to stay ahead of information. Here are some key items to include in a communication:
For many of your employees this is the first time they have ever worked from home and even those who have been remote for awhile have not experienced this while their children are home with them. I pulled a few articles that you can share with your employees to help them adjust to the remote workplace and navigate the challenges of working with kids at home. My best advice this week is to be proactive in setting expectations and be patient as employees get adjusted.
5 Tips for Effectively working from home during the Coronavirus Outbreak Remote Working Tips for Beginners
Here is the new poster that is required for all employers. It explains employee rights under the new Families First Coronavirus Response Act. If you still have employees working in a physical location, you need to post this information with your other government required posters. If you have employees currently working from home, you will need to email this to them in the interim. Don’t forget to post it when you return to the office though – it is valid through Dec 31, 2020. Also, I wanted to let you know that the Department of Labor published some Q&A documents today and we are reviewing those to provide further clarification from the original law. However, they also published information stating that the effective date for this is April 1st. Until now, all information has stated April 2nd so we are researching this issue. However, if you are making any workforce changes that are important for that date please contact us immediately to discuss.
FFCRA Poster
Here is a quick message you can use to send this notice out to employees if you have folks working at home:
Thank you all for your patience, collaboration and engagement through these past few weeks! As you may have heard, there was a recent law passed that provides emergency family medical leave and/or emergency sick pay leave to employees in certain circumstances. As part of this new law, we are providing you with you this “virtual poster” which outlines employee rights for both of these benefits. This poster will be placed along with our other employment posters when we return to the office. However, we wanted to ensure that you all saw the information and had access to it while you are working from home. Should you have any questions regarding this information, please do not hesitate to contact (insert appropriate name here). Thank you again for all you do for the organization!
